We’re gearing up for another great day of serving our neighbors in Portage at ShareFest this year!

9:00 am – 3:00 pm – Volunteers move to work sites or blood drives

Service Projects

Below is a list of the many projects that churches are tackling during ShareFest 2009 in Portage. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.  It’s too late to sign up for a project online, but if you read this in time, you can still join us at Willowcreek Middle School to get involved in a project or donate blood!

Adult Basic Education / details / signup closed

Volunteers are cleaning up the landscaping around the Portage Adult Education center, installing carpeting, and general repair and cleanup of the building.

Beverly Health Systems Fountainview / details / signup closed

Volunteers are hosting a “Shindig” gathering for the residents.

This volunteer opportunity is full.

Blood Drive / details / signup closed

Willowcreek Middle School (5962 Central Avenue – click for map) is the designated location for the Portage blood drive. This site will operate from 9am-3pm on Oct. 10. Please pre-register by going online at www.givelife.org Use the code word ”sf” while you register, or call 1-800-448-3543 to register or for more information.

Bonner Senior Center Project / details / signup closed

Volunteers are assigned to a senior’s home for general yard cleanup including trimming, weeding, and raking.

Boys & Girls Club of South Haven / details / signup closed

The Boys & Girls Club makes a huge impact on the kids in the community.  Volunteers are invited to come hang out with the kids and enjoy various games, activities, and snacks.

    Caring Carpenters Projects / details / signup closed

    This team will work on a few minor carpentry and fix-it projects at the homes of individuals in need.

    Child Evangelism Fellowship / details / signup closed

    We will be accepting donations of cell phones, laptop batteries, and printer cartridges at ShareFest Village (in the Aylesworth Elementary parking lot) on October 10 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Proceeds from these will go to support Child Evangelism Fellowship, who work with elementary age students in Portage, completely on a volunteer basis.

    Coat Drive / details / signup closed

    We will be accepting donations of coats at ShareFest Village (in the Aylesworth Elementary parking lot) on October 10 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  These coats will be given to those who present a coat voucher at the Resale Shop.

    Gabriel’s Horn / details / signup closed

    This is a temporary shelter for families. Volunteers will be doing various clean-up tasks at the shelter location.

    Housing Opportunities / details / signup closed

    Housing Opportunities manages several apartment buildings in Portage.  Volunteers will be working at one of those apartment complexes.  They will be staining decks, cleaning gutters, replacing downspouts, digging trenches to lead water away from gutter downspouts, and replacing smoke detector batteries and furnace filters.

    Miller’s Merry Manor / details / signup closed

    Volunteers are hosting a BINGO game with prizes and snacks.

    Mobile Home Roofing Project / details / signup closed

    Volunteers will be replacing the roof on a mobile home in Camelot Manor.

    Neighborhood Distribution / details / signup closed

    Volunteers will go door-to-door delivering paper products to families in need.  Thank you to our local churches for collecting these donated items!

    Portage Parks Dept. / details / signup closed

    Volunteers will be removing brush and completing various clean-up tasks at parks all over Portage.

    Portage Township Food Pantry / details / signup closed

    We will be accepting donations at ShareFest Village (in the Aylesworth Elementary parking lot) on October 10th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Items requested: boxes of cereal, crackers, macaroni & cheese, cans of tuna, pork & beans, soup, vegetables, fruit, jars of peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, packages of rice, noodles, spaghetti.

    Prayer Room / details / signup closed

    This team will be in constant prayer for the teams of volunteers out on the many projects, as well as addressing in prayer the concerns that are left with them at the prayer room by volunteers and visitors to ShareFest Village.

    Resale Shop / details / signup closed

    The Portage Resale Shop is hopping!  Volunteers will help sorting donations, inventory in the store, and other tasks as needed for the day.

    ShareFest Village / details / signup closed

    The ShareFest Village is located at Willowcreek Middle School, where volunteers will check in on ShareFest Day, the Prayer Room is open, and the Red Cross Blood Drive will take place.  Volunteers who work at the Village will help with early morning set up, refreshments, registration, lunch distribution, and other tasks at the Village as needed.
